The Roman numeral system is a positional numbering system not that developed in Ancient Rome and was used throughout the Roman Empire.
This system uses some capital letters and symbols to represent certain numbers, most numbers are written as combinations of letters. For example, the year 2014 is written as MMXIV, where each M represents 1000, the X stands for 10 more and IV represents four more units (being V, representing 5, preceded by I, representing 1).
